Lancashire & Cheshire English Springer Spaniel Club Open Show 2025

Thank you to this industrious committee for the generous invitation to judge their open show, held in conjunction with City of Birmingham. There was a great entry and it was lovely to see the committee had worked to hard to give their show such a clear identity within the championship show. The floor surface was outwith the control of anyone, and the greatest challenge of the day for sure. The hidden drain covers were a veritable nightmare for all breeds concerned and many of the exhibits were very badly affected by them – no amount of training can prepare any dog for something as unexpected as this. I hope none of the youngsters present have any lasting effects. Sadly this caused some placings to be decided based on performance, with a few exhibits being almost impossible to correctly assess on the move on the day.
